Christmas at Liseberg Amusement Park
The best Christmas market in Sweden can be found at the largest amusement park in the Nordic region, Liseberg! Enjoy winter-open thrill rides, millions of Christmas lights and stalls selling everything from knitted socks to home made sweets. As if that wasn’t enough, you can experience Charles Dicken’s classic A Christmas Carol, on ice! Liseberg opens November 15.
The Christmas tram brings joy
It really is one of the best traditions around Christmas time in Gothenburg. A vintage tram goes around Gothenburg and collects Christmas presents, operated by the Gothenburg City Mission. Look out for it on December 7, or head down to the square Drottningttorget that same day where a second tram will be located, ready to accept gifts.
Light up the dark with Lucia
When the winter is as dark as can be, in steps Lucia with lit candles and beautiful songs. It’s a Swedish tradition that really must be experienced, and you can experience it in Gothenburg from December 13–15 at various locations around town. Click here to find out more!

The cobbled street Haga Nygata is a favourite all year round, and with its picturesque three storey wooden houses it’s not hard to see why. During December, the cosy Christmas market makes the area a must-visit, so grab a friend and head to Haga November 22 and every weekend up to December 21. Get creative this Christmas
West Sweden and Gothenburg is full of great designers, and you’ll get a chance to meet some of them during the popular design market à la London at Auktionsverket Kulturarena on November 22. At creative hub Röda Sten Art Centre, from November 29 to December 1, you’ll be able to find art and design from local designers. Check them out for what is sure to be unique Christmas presents!
A Christmas tree full of stars
We dare you to walk past the singing Christmas tree without breaking into a smile. It's nigh on impossible, and that is all thanks to some of the best choirs of Gothenburg, who will take turns performing at the square Kungsportsplatsen in a Christmas tree formation.
