Aswat - Syrian voices is based on the web-based project #Syrien200, launched by Swedish television (SVT) in October 2016. The website presents 200 people who have fled from Syria to Sweden. Their stories focus on the escape, the reasons for it and about how they are doing in Sweden. SVT's ambition was to give those who came here a face and a voice, a story of their own The Museum Of World Culture has chosen twelve stories to show in large format in Aswat - Syrian voices. All 200 stories will also be available through media stations at the museum.
In another part of the exhibition with contemporary art show five Syrian artists who all work with themes such as loss, placelessness, isolation and memory. Here the museum has collaborated with Abir Boukhari, artistic director and curator for Syria's first independent contemporary art center, AllArtNow.
The exhibition will open on September 23th and will on show until autumn 2018. You will be able view the exhibition in in Swedish, English and Arabic both here on the web and on site at the museum.
