One of the most prestigious matches in the footballing calendar will be played at Gothenburg’s Gamla Ullevi arena on 16 May 2021: the final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
The UEFA Champions League is Europe’s biggest club football tournament, and the best team in Europe will be determined by a decisive match. This is the first time Sweden has ever hosted a Champions League final.
Which two teams that will play in the final won’t be clear until after the semi-finals in early May, but you can expect to see football of the very finest quality. Hopefully, the match can be played in front of spectators so that we can experience the excitement and the magic together from the stands.
In connection with the final in Gothenburg, a number of initiatives will also reinvigorate and re-energise the local football scene, with a particular focus on women and girls. The UEFA Women’s Champions League Final is part of the Swedish Football Association’s and Destination Gothenburg’s long-term strategy of using events to contribute towards a thriving society in terms of health and equality.
