About Cheerleading
Cheerleading originated in the United States in the 1890s and reached Sweden about a century later. Sweden held its first national championship in 1989, and the Swedish Cheerleading Federation was founded in 1995, after previously being organised under the Swedish American Football Federation.
The sport has been part of the Swedish Sports Confederation since 2019 and recognised by the Swedish Olympic Committee since 2022. Today, cheerleading has around 18,000 athletes across 62 clubs in Sweden.
