Albert Edelfelt – Modern artist life in fin-de-siècle Europe

Albert Edelfelt (1854-1905) is one of the most beloved artists in Finnish art history. Early in his career, he was acclaimed on the international art scene.

His technical skill, international network and versatility as an artist contributed to his success. Large-format history painting, naturalistic outdoor studies, renowned book illustrations and commissions for royal portraits attracted a large audience in the Nordic countries and in Europe.

The Gothenburg Museum of Art’s collection includes several important works by Albert Edelfelt. This exhibition displays them along with around 80 other works in a generous presentation of the oeuvre.
