Gothenburg-born violinist Ava Bahari is back on home territory after touring the Nordic region and Japan. As a dedicated chamber musician, she now presents a heartfelt and engaging programme spanning nearly 150 years, together with the French pianist Nathanaël Gouin. This special, intimate experience in Stenhammarsalen is an event to look forward to.
The duo begins with Boris Blacher’s temperamental Violin Sonata, followed by Elfrida Andrée’s Two Romances. We also hear a variation of the ballet The Fairy’s Kiss, which composer Igor Stravinsky based on H.C. Andersen’s story The Ice Maiden.
The highlight of the evening is Beethoven’s Kreutzer Sonata, which was first performed in Vienna in 1803, with Beethoven himself on the piano. When it was later published, the sonata included a dedication to French violinist Rodolphe Kreutzer – hence the title. But he never played it. Perhaps he regretted it, as the violin sonata came to be one of the biggest ever composed.
