Once again, we have the opportunity to hear piano virtuoso Leif Ove Andsnes, who last performed in Gothenburg in 2023. Together with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, led by Magnus Fryklund, we now hear Beethoven’s brilliance and the charm of two different composers called Strauss in a masterful programme.
The concert begins with festive music for New Year celebrations when the orchestra waltzes in with a classic New Year’s Eve gem by Josef Strauss. The evening’s highlight is Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor, a dramatic and beautiful work. Composed around 1803, this concerto reflects Beethoven’s transition to his mature style, combining the fiery intensity of his earlier works with the lyrical and emotional depth that would define his later compositions.
Next, we dive into Richard Strauss’ world, with the suite from his famous opera Der Rosenkavalier. Strauss’ lush landscape of sound is filled with bittersweet romance and thrilling waltzes. The story is a comedy of errors that became a timeless tribute to love and nostalgia.
