The exhibition features images from the Ziggy Stardust era, the classic Heroes album cover, 40 years of press photography, Bowie’s travels in Japan, Tin Machine and much more. Two David Bowie music videos are also included – Blackstar and Lazarus, both directed by Johan Renck.

David Bowie and photographer Masayoshi Sukita first met in London in 1972, when Sukita travelled there to explore the flourishing music and art scene. Sukita went on to become an important figure in Bowie’s exploration of Japanese culture. Their friendship and creative collaboration lasted for more than 40 years.

Sukita was perhaps the photographer who best documented Bowie’s many transformations and personas – always with sensitivity and closeness. Many of Sukita’s images have become iconic, not least the classic Heroes album cover and the Watch That Man series featuring Bowie as the “Space Samurai”.

At the opening on 11 April at 15:00, Ebbot Lundberg and Gunnar Frick will perform a selection of Bowie songs.

Closed days: Mondays, May 1, June 6, June 19 and 20.
