The Hungarian quintet Söndörgö performs tamburitza music, Hungarian folk music with roots in South Slavic tradition. At the centre is the tambura, a mandolin-like string instrument, complemented by flutes, accordion, saxophone, percussion, and vocals.
Their repertoire is based on traditional music documented by Béla Bartók and Tihamér Vujicsics, fused with folk, rock, and exploratory arrangements. With joy and curiosity, Söndörgö tests the boundaries of tradition; what it is, what it can be, and what it may become.
Söndörgő
Söndörgö was formed in 1995 in Szentendre, just outside Budapest. The band consists of Áron Eredics, Benjamin Eredics, Dávid Eredics, Salamon Eredics, and Ábel Dénes. All members except bassist Ábel are related, raised with the music in a family that has long worked to preserve and pass on the South Slavic heritage. Today, all four members of the Eredics family teach at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest.
The concert is presented in collaboration with The Cultural Administration of Region Västra Götaland.
