Together with baritone soloist Christoph Pohl, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Gothenburg Symphony Chorus, conductor Marie Jacquot leads us to a place that reminds us of what Christmas may be most deeply about: hope, humanity and togetherness.
It took nearly ten years for Johannes Brahms to complete A German Requiem. The work was finished in 1868, three years after the death of his mother. It was also his major breakthrough. This is not a typical religious funeral mass for the dead. Rather, Brahms presents a comforting perspective for the living.
Christina Nilsson’s breakthrough came with her performance as Aida at the Royal Swedish Opera in 2018. Since then, she has sung at the world’s major opera houses. Last year she was appointed as court singer. And for the second time this year, we get to hear popular French conductor Marie Jacquot, chief conductor of the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen. Together, they create a ceremonial and consoling evening for the Christmas season.
