GEIGER was started around 2004 by a few composers and musicians, several of whom had met at what is now called the Academy of Music and Drama. They started their own to create a place and context for contemporary music, and especially contemporary electronic music. An unpretentious name was chosen: GEIGER (“Gothenburg Electro-acoustic Institute for Grants, Events and Research”). Every syllable in that acronym may not have been realized yet, but there have been a huge number of concerts over the years with music and sound art that otherwise would never have been experienced in Gothenburg.

Since 2006, GEIGER has regularly arranged larger and smaller events at various locations in Gothenburg and this anniversary festival will present a program with both Swedish and international artists.
