“A fresh breeze of disruption and seduction.” This is how trumpet player Goran Kajfeš was described by newspaper Dagens Nyheter in the motivation for his 2025 Culture Prize nomination.
Now he returns to Gothenburg Concert Hall, this time with his jazz collective Subtropic Arkestra. Even more major Swedish jazz musicians can be found here: saxophone players Jonas Kullhammar and Per “Ruskträsk” Johansson, pianist Jesper Nordenström, guitarist Reine Fiske, bassist Johan Berthling and drummer Johan Holmegard. The final album in the band’s The Reason Why trilogy won a Grammis Award in 2018, and they have earned praise from the press and audiences worldwide.
The group’s jazz fusion sound knows no limits, moving freely between nations, musical styles and eras. Enter a subtropical sound landscape, with influences from Turkey, Nigeria, Brazil, post-rock, electronica and cosmic jazz – and everything in between.
