It is easy to imagine that the Baroque repertoire has remained untouched for centuries, yet behind every concert programme lies a wealth of scholarly research. Musicologists continue to uncover forgotten treasures, bringing remarkable works to light after centuries beneath the dust of history. One such scholar is the internationally renowned musicologist Kerala Snyder, whose tireless work has been instrumental in reconstructing the music of the composer Simone Vesi.
Recognising Göteborg Baroque’s unique artistry, Snyder selected the ensemble at an early stage to champion Vesi’s music. This collaboration has now culminated in a forthcoming recording devoted to the previously little-known Italian composer. So wrote Carl Magnus Juliusson in Göteborgs-Posten in 2019, following Göteborg Baroque’s performance of Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri as part of the ensemble’s 15th anniversary celebrations.
Göteborg Baroque was founded in 2003 by its Artistic Director, Magnus Kjellson, who continues the long-standing tradition of leading the ensemble from the organ or harpsichord while performing. What gives Göteborg Baroque its distinctive sound is the close musical dialogue between its instrumentalists and singers, united by a shared passion for early music.
