Barbara Hannigan possesses one of the most remarkable voices on the classical stage. In this acclaimed chamber music programme, which is now premiering in Sweden, Hannigan and French pianist Bertrand Chamayou explore three different composers with powerful visions.

American saxophone player and bandleader John Zorn based his 2012 song cycle, Jumalattaret, on texts about goddesses in the Finnish Kalevala. Hannigan has been celebrated for her interpretation, in which she handles dramatic incantations and outbursts.

Olivier Messiaen’s quieter Songs of Earth and Heaven are dedicated to the composer’s wife and son, and Hannigan and Chamayou have recorded an album of them. You will also hear two solo pieces for piano by Alexander Scriabin, composed just before his early death – and filled with mystery.
