Over the years, Jacob Karlzon has chiselled out a rhythmic and resonant style that he has refined with his own ensembles and in collaborations with names like Viktoria Tolstoy and Georg Riedel.
As always, he emphasises interaction and contact with musicians – and with the audience. That is precisely what he does here with star Danish trumpet player Mads La Cour, who can typically be heard with DR Big Band or with saxophone player Chris Potter.
We also hear bass player Thobias Gabrielson, who freely alternates between jazz, pop and rock, and has toured with musicians such as Magnus Öström and Timbuktu.
On the drums is the equally versatile and talented Robert Mehmet Ikiz.
Together, they are Questar, and they make music that offers a unique concert every time, erasing the line between composition and improvisation, acoustic and electronic – and opening a window between different genres.
