Joyce DiDonato and Norwegian National Opera Orchestra

Irresistible tales of love and evil death are on the programme as American mezzosoprano Joyce DiDonato performs in Gothenburg. Don’t miss a unique guest performance, with music by Ravel and Berlioz.

She has appeared on the BBC Last night of the Proms and interpreted sculptor Camille Claudel. When mezzosoprano Joyce DiDonato takes the stage, you can count on musical conviction and powerful characters. This evening, we hear her in the Berlioz mini-drama about Cleopatra.

The orchestra is from the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, based in Oslo and also offer music from Ravel, celebrating his 150st anniversary. Ravel’s ballet suite tells the story of lovers Daphnis and Chloé who were abandoned as children and whose love is tested by malevolent forces in this ancient myth.

First, conductor Edward Gardner leads the orchestra in Igor Stravinsky’s playful and masterful Petrushka, about a Russian puppet theatre during Carnival.
