Kishi Bashi is the artist name of singer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter Kaoru Ishibashi. Born in Seattle and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, he studied film scoring at Berklee College of Music before establishing himself as an internationally recognized violinist. He has toured and performed with artists such as Regina Spektor, Sondre Lerche, and the indie band of Montreal.
After his debut album 151a, Kishi Bashi was highlighted as one of the most exciting new artists of 2012 by NPR’s Bob Boilen. Since then, he has continued to push the boundaries between genres, with his music moving through a unique landscape of classical pop, indie, and experimental soundscapes.
His fourth album Omoiyari is his most significant work to date—a record where he weaves together stories of history, oppression, love, and loss, with a strong desire to connect the present with the past. The result is an uncompromising musical expression that reflects our times.
With praise from publications such as The Guardian, The New York Times, and Wall Street Journal, his music is described as both evocative, playful, and virtuously performed.
This evening at Trädgårn Studio Live will be something out of the ordinary—an intimate and unique solo show where you’ll get closer to the music than ever before.
