The saxophone quartet is something of a rarity: a new standard ensemble, a sort of modern alternative to the classic string quartet. Compared to its predecessor, it also has several clear advantages: the saxophone has an enormous dynamic range, and by switching between different instruments in the saxophone family, the ensemble can easily shift between registers, from bass to treble.
Switzerland-based Konus Quartet embody this potential for versatility and renewal well, having collaborated closely with many composers and premiered countless works.
This concert centers on a commission by composer Emil Nilsson, who is also a board member of Levande Musik.
