French Bertrand Chamayou is one of the world’s most celebrated and in-demand concert pianists. At last he is coming to Gothenburg Concert Hall for a collaboration with the Symphony Orchestra, led by Principal Guest Conductor Barbara Hannigan. Their friendship has borne fruit, both on stage and on albums.

In the first part, you’ll hear two chamber music works by Messiaen, who had an ability to ask difficult questions through little means. With hints of birdsong, freedom is ever-present. This is paired with music by György Ligeti, “the most phenomenal creative genius I have ever worked with,” says Barbara Hannigan.

After the interval, you’ll follow the lovers Pelléas and Mélisande in Fauré’s beautiful orchestral suit. Like birdsong, the flute lifts the sound towards the sky in the very popular Sicilienne.
