Midsummer celebrations
Every year, Midsummer is celebrated across the Gothenburg archipelago, on both the northern and southern islands. In addition to traditional dancing around the maypole and classic ring games, many islands also offer the chance to help decorate the maypole and take part in the preparations. You’ll find up-to-date times and locations for this year’s celebrations on Visit Öckerö’s website, Midsummer in the archipelago.
Free admission.
Getting to the archipelago
The northern islands can be reached by car ferry from the Lilla Varholmen ferry terminal, while the southern islands are accessed by passenger ferries from Saltholmen. All islands are easily reached using public transport. Plan your journey with the Västtrafik travel planner. You can also find more detailed information in our guide: Getting to the archipelago.
Tip – Take the Kungsö Ferry to Hönö
Hop aboard the Styrsöbolaget ferry Kungsö, which departs from Stenpiren in central Gothenburg and takes you to Hönö – one of the islands where Midsummer also is celebrated. Book your tickets via Tickster.
