Over 20 years have passed since Baz Luhrmann’s Oscar-winning film Moulin Rouge! astonished audiences worldwide. Since then, the musical version has taken over both New York and London, and most recently Stockholm’s China Theatre, where Moulin Rouge! became a massive success, performed to 150,000 guests across two completely sold-out seasons.
Now, the musical is finally coming to Gothenburg! Rondo will host this spectacular and lavish production, transforming the theater into the legendary nightclub Moulin Rouge in Paris. The audience is invited to step into 1890s Paris and experience the romantic, vibrant era known as La Belle Époque. Moulin Rouge! The Musical is the kind of show that leaves you saying afterward, “I was there!”
Moulin Rouge! The Musical is an explosion of sensory impressions, featuring seductive set designs, colorful costumes, sizzling performances, and a never-ending parade of hits. A star-studded cast and orchestra perform timeless songs from legendary artists like David Bowie, Lady Gaga, Sting, Queen, Elvis Presley, Rihanna, The Rolling Stones, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Joe Cocker, Madonna, U2, Whitney Houston, Elton John, and Adele.
On stage, you’ll see some of Sweden’s brightest musical stars, as well as the chance to discover exciting new talents. Rising star Marsha Songcome takes on Nicole Kidman’s iconic role as Satine, while Andreas Wijk plays Christian, originally portrayed by Ewan McGregor. Also featured are Morgan Alling, Fred Johanson, Alexander Larsson, and Anton Ewald, along with a large ensemble and orchestra. Direction and Swedish dialogue adaptation are by Anders Albien.
