From the UK and Northern Germany, the programme spans the Scandinavian countries to the Baltic States, encompassing folk songs in a new sonic guise, romantic music and surprising contemporary discoveries.
A particular highlight is Benjamin Britten’s “Advance Democracy”. This poignant appeal to stand up for democracy and freedom was written in 1938 under the immediate impression of the threat of fascism and is as relevant today as it was then.
The Franz Schubert Choir from Hamburg, with over 90 active singers, is one of the leading concert choirs of the Hanseatic city. In Hamburg, the choir regularly performs larger choral works with professional orchestras and soloists. Every two years, the choir embarks on a tour and showcases its ability to present intimate and refined concerts with a cappella programs.
Choir director Christiane Hrasky is the regional cantor of the North German Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she is responsible for choral singing in all age groups, vocal training, education and music publications.
