Get closer to documentary and experimental film at two separate solo exhibitions by filmmakers Mirka Duijn and Nina Spiering, and artist and art lecturer Daniel Jewesbury. The exhibitions present major new productions with several thematic focuses, but the artists are united by a shared interest in questions of desire and power through the act of looking at images.
Mirka Duijn and Nina Spiering have chosen to look closely at the landscape imaginaries woven in our personal or botanical gardens, including the one in Gothenburg where the artists filmed most of their new video installation We Looked and Called It Nature.
On display are other works engaged in the same theme in various ways, such as the landscape mirror installation It’s alive, ALIVE!, and the video essay film Paradise Pt. II which lends the exhibition its title.
Daniel Jewesbury´s exhibition starts from the experience of looking, as well as living in different cities. His focus turns to Gothenburg – a city in a state of constant disappearance and emergence, which occupies an important place in the various projects that the artist presents in the exhibition, especially in a short experimental film Landscape with Woman and Monument, from 2024.
Daniel´s other works in the exhibition include the 16mm film poem After Thought from 2023, and the large new video installation The Death of Venus commissioned by Röda Sten Konsthall.
The exhibitions are curated by Amila Puzić.
