Prototyping Gothenburg

In the summer of 2023, when Gothenburg celebrates 400 years, public spaces will be transformed into an exhibition arena.

In the summer of 2023, when Gothenburg celebrates 400 years, the city’s public spaces will be transformed into an exhibition arena under the name Prototyp Göteborg (Prototyping Gothenburg).

The word prototype roughly means “first form” – a primitive form or basic form of something. Prototyp Göteborg highlights how buildings and environments of historical interest co-exist within both the contemporary and the future city.

The sauna in Jubileumsparken is an example of a prototype that will become a permanent part of the area. Another example is the marine allotment Flytevi in Frihamnen, a small-scale farm in Göta Älv, where visitors can learn more about seafood and aquaculture.

The main area of Prototyp Göteborg is a walkway that stretches from Frihamnen to Ringön, over the bridge Hisingsbron to the Central Station and Kronhuset.
