The Bohuslän Chamber Music Festival opens with one of the most beloved works in music history – Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, an inexhaustible source of imagination, power, and beauty that for more than three hundred years has inspired generations of musicians and listeners. The chamber orchestra The Funäs Chamber Soloists is made up of distinguished string players from across Europe and is led by the internationally acclaimed violinist and conductor Massimo Quarta, winner of the prestigious Paganini Competition and a regular guest on the world’s major stages. The first part of the concert is devoted entirely to Vivaldi’s music.
After the intermission follows Report on the Blind, in which John Malkovich portrays a man’s intense and dark search for the origin of evil in the world. Malkovich’s powerful stage presence is paired with Russian composer Alfred Schnittke’s expressive Concerto for Piano and Strings, performed by the brilliant pianist Anastasya Terenkova. The work is based on a passage from Argentine author Ernesto Sabato’s novel On Heroes and Tombs – a psychological and philosophical exploration of the human inner struggle and the shadowy depths of society. The result is a captivating and deeply moving experience – a musical and dramatic journey through light and darkness, where music and text intertwine into a powerful artistic whole.
The Bohuslän Chamber Music Festival is a production by Kammarmusikens Vänner. More information on bohuslänsfestivalen.se.
