South Korean violinist Clara-Jumi Kang performs Lalo’s passionate violin concerto Symphonie Espagnole. Ryan Bancroft conducts the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in Anders Hillborg’s Cold Heat, in which flocks of birds travel across the water.
South Korean violinist Clara-Jumi Kang was a star already as a child, and has visited Sweden on several occasions. At this guest performance she presents the beautiful violin concerto Symphonie Espagnole. French Édouard Lalo composed the concerto around the same time that Bizet’s opera Carmen premiered in Paris, with the same passionate Spanish sound. Audiences received both with great enthusiasm. Later, Tchaikovsky found inspiration from Lalo to compose his own masterful violin concerto.
American Ryan Bancroft became established on Swedish stages when he took over as chief conductor of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in 2023. Simplicity, sensitivity and precision are words that arise about the collaboration between Bancroft and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
