Festival Concert at Scandinavium.
Side by Side by El Sistema is an international music camp which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
Festival Concert marks the end of the music camp for many of the participants and offers symphonic music, magnificent choral songs, and powerful arrangements.
At Side by Side, young people from around the world gather to sing and play orchestral music together, side by side with professional musicians. The camp promotes classical music while counteracting segregation in all its forms and building bridges between people, cultures, and continents. The concert offers a rare opportunity to become part of Side by Side’s anniversary celebration. The camp’s various tracks form massive choirs and orchestras with hundreds of participants in different combinations. Over 2,000 choral singers and orchestral musicians of mixed ages as well as the entire Gothenburg Symphony and Gothenburg Symphony Vocal Ensemble perform together in Scandinavium. All under the direction of the camp’s many well-known conductors, led by Ron Davis Alvarez and Birgitta Mannerström Molin.
Side by Side is an important part of the Gothenburg 400 year celebration, and what would this double (actually triple!) anniversary celebration be without Gothenburg’s own anniversary song Vi vill leva, vi vill dö i Göteborg (We want to live, we want to die in Gothenburg)? Singer/songwriter Katarina Hemlin is present live during the concert and performs this musical tribute to the city and its inhabitants together with all 2000 participants!
