George Gershwin’s rhythmic Piano Concerto in F suits conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali perfectly. The concerto was composed in 1925 and as always, Gershwin is full of energy and jazz references, and sensational pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet has the full spectrum of colours needed to capture them.
Composer Tobias Broström’s music is like a cinematic narrative, rich with associations and rhythms. He has written several orchestral works on the theme of colour and light with inspiration from alchemy. Symphony No. 1, Albedo, was premiered in 2022 by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and was described as ” gushes forth as if it were flowing matter”. When Tobias Broström’s second symphony now receives its world premiere, we dare to promise a powerful end to a charged evening.
