On August 29, Västkustens Träbåtsförening is once again hosting Göteborgsrodden – with period clothing from the early 1900s! The participating rowing boat crews represent a floating cultural heritage they are proud to showcase and preserve. The association organised the first Göteborgsrodden in 2024, which was a great success!
Rowing tour along Göta river and the canal
The rowing begins at Frihamnen and continues to Rosenlund at 11:00, then through Rosenlundskanalen to the bridge Vasabron and “grässlänten” (the grassy slope), where the rowers will stop for lunch between 12:00–13:30. Here, the brass octet Kamraterna will perform, and Jonas Olsson, serving as compère, will present the arriving crews. There will be an opportunity to meet crews from the west, east and south coasts, as well as from Denmark and Norway.
After the break, the boats continue past Drottningtorget, Brunnsparken and out into Stora Hamnkanalen. The next stop is the Estonia Harbour at 16:00.
Free for those who want to see the boats and meet the crews at the bridge Vasabron.
Viewing points
The participating rowing boats can be seen and heard from both sides of Göta river, but for a close-up view, the best vantage points are along the edges of the moat Vallgraven.
On Sunday morning, the boats will be lifted at Frihamnen for transport home.
About Göteborgsrodden
The purpose of the event is to preserve the cultural heritage and knowledge of “Rowing in traditional wooden boats”, to foster a pleasant joint activity and togetherness on the waters of Gothenburg, to expand the network of like-minded enthusiasts, to welcome guest rowers from other coasts, and to safeguard the floating cultural heritage.
