Museum of Gothenburg
Exhibition at Museum of Gothenburg.
In our upcoming basic exhibition about 20th century Gothenburg, you get to revel in our most beloved, hated and iconic Gothenburg objects and discover sides of the city you never thought existed.
On 4 June 2021, Gothenburg will turn 400 years. This is a pretty big deal for the Museum of Gothenburg. The museum will celebrate by giving the city and all Gothenburgers a historic birthday present – an entirely new exhibition about Gothenburg’s 20th century and present time.
Starting with Gothenburg’s most iconic objects and buildings, and accompanied by a chorus of voices from history, the following question is examined: what is the thing about Gothenburg? Check out awesome objects from the museum’s collections, like the first Volvo car and a New World sea chest that crossed an ocean.
Visit the museum and discover new sides to the town, whether you’re a Gothenburger, newly moved here or just visiting, and find out the thing that’s special about Gothenburg just for you.
The exhibition opens on 4 June 2021, the day Gothenburg turns 400. It’s the final piece in the puzzle in the museum’s exhibition voyage through the city’s 400-year history, which begins in the popular 17th century “Birth of Gothenburg” exhibition and finishes in the present day.
