The Witch Hillary Goes to the Opera is a fun and engaging introduction to opera, recommended for families with children aged 5–10. This performance will be presented as a Relaxed Performance, meaning that everyone is welcome to move around, dance, sing along, or simply listen. The concept invites everyone to experience the performance in their own way. The doors will remain open throughout the performance, making it easy to come and go. Everyone is welcome, just as they are!
The Story
Hillary hears a word she has never heard before: “opera”. She looks it up and discovers that it seems to be something where people sing all the time. Hillary conjures up the singer Maria Bellacanta, who takes both Hillary and the audience on a journey into the magical world of opera.
Excerpts from The Magic Flute, Die Fledermaus, Hansel and Gretel and other well-known operas and operettas performed at the Gothenburg Opera since its opening are woven into the story. Hillary has lots of questions, which Maria is happy to answer – sometimes with the help of the mouse Mus-iker.
