Led by bassist and composer Milo Fitzpatrick (Portico Quartet), Vega Trails returns with Sierra Tracks, inspired by his move to the mountains northwest of Madrid. The music blends chamber music, jazz, and folk influences, expanding from the intimate duo sound of their debut into a wider, more cinematic landscape.
Longtime collaborator Jordan Smart (Mammal Hands) brings saxophone, bass clarinet, and ney, joined by piano, vibraphone, and strings to create a richly layered sound world shaped by sweeping landscapes and twilight mountain light.
More than music, Sierra Tracks reflects on mental health and recovery from pandemic isolation, exploring how movement and nature can bring clarity and release.
“This album explores the relationship between our complex inner mental processes and how the natural world can help us find definition and clarity.” – Milo Fitzpatrick
