Celebrate Walpurgis in Slottsskogen with choral singing, a bonfire and community spirit

Gothenburg’s cultural heritage lives on in Slottsskogen with traditional Walpurgis Eve celebrations on 30 April. Experience a festive evening filled with choir performances, a spring speech and the classic Walpurgis bonfire.

With roots dating back to 1874, Slottsskogen has long been a place for gatherings and musical performances. In earlier times, elegantly dressed crowds travelled by horse-drawn tram from Brunnsparken to the park to enjoy promenade concerts and entertainment from various musical ensembles.

The tradition continues this year as around 20 choirs of different ages fill the park with song. The programme runs from 18:00 to 21:00 and begins with a unique choral walk, starting from six different locations in the park from 18:00. Details of which choirs will perform at each location will be announced shortly.

At 20:00, singing at the outer parts of the park concludes as visitors are guided towards the Main Stage in front of Björngårdsvillan. There, Mayflower Secretary General Åse Henell will deliver the traditional spring speech before the Walpurgis bonfire is lit and the choral singing continues.
