Feskekörka has been an iconic destination in Gothenburg since 1874 and is now reopening after renovation. It offers a modern market hall with fish counters, new restaurants, bars, events and a large outdoor terrace overlooking Vallgraven. The classic Fiskekrogen, located in the historic Wijkska house from 1853 at Lilla Torget, has been serving fish and seafood classics such as seafood platter, turbot and red sole since 1972. Choose between a menu package with wine suggestions or à la carte.

A short walk will take you to some of the city’s premier cultural institutions, such as the Göteborg Opera, the Gothenburg Concert Hall or Gothenburg City Theatre. Watch a quality film in a classic cinema

Gothenburg’s charming cinemas offer a unique film experience. See a classic or a smaller premiere at one of the city’s older cinemas, such as Bio Roy on Avenyn, Capitol at Skanstorget, the historic Aftonstjärnan or the cosy Hagabion in Linné. In January each year, the Göteborg Film Festival takes over the city’s cinemas and transforms Gothenburg into a gathering place for film lovers from all over the world, with screenings of films from all sorts of genres.

Experience art and design

In the middle of Götaplatsen, at the top of Avenyn, lies Gothenburg Museum of Art, one of Sweden’s foremost museums for Nordic art from the turn of the century, with works from the 15th century to the present day, including international masterpieces. For those interested in design and fashion, the Röhsska Museum is a must. With a collection of around 50,000 objects from Sweden, Europe, China and Japan, as well as antiquities from Greece and Rome, it is a treasure trove of design and craftsmanship.

Enjoy a Michelin star dinner

Five restaurants in Gothenburg have been awarded a star in the Michelin Guide. For a city of Gothenburg’s size, it is unique to have so many starred restaurants, and the awards have put the city on the international food map. Restaurant 28+, which you can find at the street Götabergsgatan 28, has been awarded a star in the Michelin Guide every year since 1991, which is the longest of any restaurant in all of Sweden.
