Independent craft breweries like Dugges Ale & Porterbryggeri, Oceanbryggeriet, Poppels, Vega Bryggeri, Beerbliotek och Stigbergets Bryggeri are all found in and around Gothenburg. Gothenburg also hosts a number of beer and whisky festivals each year, including Gothenburg Brewers Guild Beer Festival, GBG Beer Week and A Beer & Whisky Fair.

Many of the local beers are available at Systembolaget (the Swedish liquor store), but there are also plenty of pubs and bars in Gothenburg where you can enjoy the hard work and dedication put in by the many local breweries.

We have listed some of our favourite beer spots below.

3 Små Rum

A beer nerd paradise, located just a stone’s throw from the main boulevard Avenyn. The motto “Don’t ask for blask” (blask is Swedish slang for lousy beer) sets the tone, expect to find a wide variety of renowned Swedish and international beers. You’ll also be able to try the pub’s own beers. If you’re hungry, 3 Små Rum serves classic pub grub and Persian dishes, with several vegetarian options on the menu.

Brewers Beer Bar

The streets Andra and Tredje Långgatan are two of the most popular bar and restaurant streets in Gothenburg. You’ll find Brewers Beer Bar on Tredje Långgatan (and now also on Magasinsgatan in the central parts of the town), a pub created by brewers from Gothenburg, for beer lovers from all over. The selection of beers is ever changing, but expect to find plenty of local breweries represented. As if that wasn’t enough, the pub also offers some of the best sourdough pizzas in Gothenburg, with vegan options available.

Hagabion Café and Bar Kino

The Hagabion Café and bar Kino is one of the most popular outdoor venues in Gothenburg during the warmer months, but its great all vegetarian menu attracts visitors all year round. The restaurant also owns and operates the local and popular brewery Stigbergets Bryggeri, meaning that Kino always has the latest and freshest beer from Stigberget. Kino offers at least 9 different Stigbergets Bryggeri beers on tap at all times.

Haket Pub

Haket Pub serves a large variety of beers and has an outdoor seating area with afternoon sun. With over 350 beers on offer, you’re sure to find most of the Gothenburg breweries represented here. If you’re hungry, Haket serves classic pub meals as well as Japanese food Wednesday–Saturday.

Ivans Pilsnerbar

Ringön is an old industrial area currently undergoing a transformation into a creative hub with independent fashion labels, craft breweries and restaurants opening. The latest addition is Ivans Pilsnerbar, described as “not your typical beer bar”, focusing on pasta, pilsner and electronic music. You will find a wide selection of beers from local brewery O/O as well as a changing selection of international brews.

Majornas Bryggeri

Majornas Bryggeri, which you’ll find at Karl Johansgatan 88 right next to Chapmans Torg in Majorna, is a brewery pub with about a hundred seats. Besides good beer and food, Majornas Bryggeri also offers beer tastings, brewing courses and lectures about beer. In addition to Majornas Bryggeri’s own beers, you will also find a wide selection of beers from other local breweries here.

O/O Bar

The people behind the fantastic beer “Narangi” have finally opened their own bar in Gothenburg. You can sit down and enjoy a Narangi and many other beers from O/O at Bangatan 22 in the neighbourhood of Majorna, just a short walk from the square Stigbergstorget.

Poppels Citybryggeri

With its 170 seats, and where the beer is pumped directly from the yeast tank to the serving tank, you cannot help but to get impressed. Poppels Citybryggeri can be found on the street Vikingsgatan 1 right next to Hisingsbron in the middle of central Gothenburg. In addition to this giant premises, Poppel’s Brewery is also housed in a cozy building located in the heart of Jonsered’s classic factory environment, just outside Gothenburg.

Stigbergets Shangri-La

Right next to The Maritime Museum and Aquarium in Majorna, you’ll find the premises where Stigbergets Bryggeri used to brew its beer. Nowadays, the premises have been transformed into a pleasant and slightly hidden bar and restaurant where you can enjoy beer from Stigbergets Bryggeri, but also from other breweries.

Två feta grisar

On the island of Hisingen at Ringön you’ll find Två Feta Grisar, which both brews its own beer and imports from exciting breweries around the world. Inside the brewery, you can try their own beers in their taproom or on the outdoor seating space. In the restaurant, you will find more exciting beers from Belgium, Italy, Scotland, Spain and more.

Vega Bryggeri

Vega Bryggeri is a small-scale brewery located in the old factory quarters Ringön on the island of Hisingen. Vega brews its beer according to old traditions and the venue also has a restaurant and stage, where gigs are held occasionally.

Ölstugan Tullen

Ölstugan Tullen

When Ölstugan Tullen opened on Andra Långgatan in 2010, the goal was to create a pub that served local beer and traditional Swedish food, for a reasonable price. The concept was a huge success and today there are seven Tullen pubs around Gothenburg. They all exclusively sell Swedish beer, and serve traditional Swedish food. You’ll find plenty of Gothenburg breweries represented here.

Ölrepubliken

Ölrepubliken is located close to the shopping centre Nordstan in the middle of Gothenburg. The pub Ölrepubliken has been a favourite among beer connoisseurs since it opened in 2009. The spacious pub offers roughly 30 beers on tap and more than 200 different beers in the fridge. They also serve tasty food and several different brands of whisky. The friendly and experienced staff will happily guide you through the jungle of taps and bottles to help you find something you’ll like.

Ölhallen 7:an 

Welcome to the oldest beer pub in Gothenburg. Former governor Kjell A Mattson gave Ölhallen 7:an special permission to serve beer without having to serve food, which makes it the one place in Gothenburg that only serves beer and nothing else. The pub was founded in 1900 and has retained most its old original furnishings. Located in the city centre next to the market hall Stora Saluhallen, the pub is a popular drinking spot among locals as well as visitors.
