Vasastan, the city centre and Lorensberg
In Vasastan there are galleries everywhere you look and during weekends it’s almost impossible to open a door without finding yourself at an opening party. Galleri Thomassen and Galleri Backlund are two of the most prominent galleries in the area.
Galleri Hammarén, on Erik Dahlbergsgatan 14, focusses on Swedish artists, and collaborates with famous painters like Lena Cronqvist, Ann Edholm, Ernst Billgren and Charlotte Gyllenhammar.
Nsfw/Svilova is a non-profit contemporary art platform with a gallery on Vasa Viktorigatan 5 showing international contemporary art. Active both online and offline, they want to highlight discussions within culture, art and social development.

Nevven Gallery focuses primarily on international contemporary painting, sculpture and photography. The gallery has a program featuring a selection of some of the best uprising and mid-career artists from Europe and North America, along with some of the most interesting Scandinavian artists.
At Götabergsgatan 24 you´ll find Galleri Nils Åberg where “the art twins” Ida and Nils Åberg, whoinherited their father´s great art collection a few years ago, host exhibitions by both new talents and internationally acclaimed artists. There is always something happening at the intimate Galleri Engleson. Here, the exhibitions usually last for a week at the time, so make sure to check out their calendar. Located at Erik Dahlbergsgatan 28 in Vasastan.
Grafik i Väst, Storgatan 20, is a non-profit association and gallery for print makers. The gallery houses an impressive bank of some 4000 edition prints.
Cross the moat and enter the city centre, where you’ll find The Photo Gallery on Kungsgatan 5. Excellent photo art from some of the best and most renowned photographers in the world.

Next to the cathedral Domkyrkan you’ll find Miva Fine Art, that specialises in international and national pop art and offers painting, sculpture, photography and contemporary art.
Gothenburg Art Society, Göteborgs Konstförening was established in 1854 with the vision to promote art in the city and has continued to do so until the present day. The gallery at Södra vägen 2 show sculpture, painting, drawing, design, photography, installations and more.
Gothia Towers is one of the most popular hotels in Gothenburg, and in their lobby you’ll find the art gallery “the gallery”. The gallery displays art from established as well as up and coming artists.
The Hasselblad Center, located at Götaplatsen next to the Gothenburg Museum of Art, is a great place for photography with lots of exciting exhibitions. Every year the Hasselblad foundation rewards a photographer with one million SEK and the following exhibition with the awarded artist is always a highlight. At Göteborgs konsthall you’ll find interesting exhibitions of contemporary art, free of charge.

Andra Långgatan, Haga and Linnéstaden
The area around Andra Långgatan, Linnégatan and the square Järntorget is crowded with bars, restaurants, cafés and galleries.
If you’re interested in jewellery and design, make sure to visit Gallery Four in the Linné neighbourhood. They also show temporary exhibitions. Sintra is a shop and gallery in Haga owned by local artists and craftsmen. Students from the School of Design and Crafts often have exhibitions here.
Galleri PS can be found at Kaponjärgatan 54 in Haga. The gallery’s exhibition program is varied and includes both painting, graphics, sculpture, photography, film and installations by Swedish and international artists. The exhibitions are shown for two weeks.
Konstepidemin, the colourful home of more than a hundred artists, sculptors, ceramics, dancers and more, is situated just up the hill from Linnéplatsen. There are four galleries in the area and always something well worth seeing.
Galleri 54, on Kastellgatan 7, is run by professional artists and has been showing resonating artworks since 1959.
Klippan and Majorna
The neighbourhood Majorna is full of cosy cafés and excellent second hand shops, but there’s also a lot of artist’s workshops and studios. One of the most prominent off-centre galleries, Röda Sten, is located here. In a three-storey brick cube just a stone’s throw away from the sea you will find installations, paintings, video art and all kinds of interesting performances from Swedish as well as international artists.
Just a short walk from Röda Sten you will find 3:e Våningen which is mainly a centre for modern dance and choreography but also hosts exhibitions, concerts, performances and much more.
Göteborgs Konstnärsklubb have their own gallery, Galleri Majnabbe, located inside one of Gothenburg’s oldest cultural buildings, Kustens Hus. They put on around 10 exhibitions each year, ranging from tradtidional art to avant-garde. You’ll also be able to enjoy a spectacular view of the river Göta älv änd the bridge Älvsborgsbron.

The island Hisingen
At Eriksberg, a bit further down the river Göta Älv, you’ll find Rivercity Gallery. The gallery’s ambition is to exhibit a wide range of contemporary art. While focusing on visual arts, the gallery also shows photography, glass art and sculpture.
