Ringön – craft breweries and urban culture

Ringön is still an industrial district – and that is a big part of its charm. Among workshops, warehouses and quays, a mix of breweries, restaurants, live music venues, urban farming and creative businesses has taken root. The result is a part of Gothenburg where pilsner and pasta, a clothing factory and a live stage can be neighbours without anyone seeming to find it particularly unusual.

Good to know about Ringön

Ringön is located on Hisingen, just east of Frihamnen and Hisingsbron bridge. Unlike a typical restaurant district, the area is fairly spread out and still full of businesses that are not here for visitors at all. That mix is exactly what gives Ringön its character.

It is worth picking a couple of stops before you go and checking current opening hours and events. Ringön is often at its liveliest in the evenings and at weekends, while some businesses and lunch spots are better suited to daytime visits.

Beer, food and things that actually grow through the asphalt

Ringön has become an important part of Gothenburg’s craft beer scene, and here you get unusually close to the actual brewing. Vega Bryggeri and Två Feta Grisar brew their beer in the area and pair it with food, taprooms and various activities. Stigbergets also brews much of its beer here, in the same place as their live music venue Bryggan på Ringön.

But Ringön is not just for people who like discussing hop varieties. At Ivans Pilsnerbar, Italian inspired food, pilsner and electronic music meet under one roof, while Pallazzot by the Göta river combines restaurant and bar with gigs, parties and other events that have a habit of turning a planned dinner into a much longer evening. For Persian flavours, there is Restaurang Pardis.

And sometimes local really does mean local. Right next to Ivans is Asfaltsträdgården, an organic urban farm surrounded by concrete, old industrial tracks and boat sheds. Much of the vegetables and herbs used in Ivans’ kitchen comes from the garden just a few metres away. It is hard to imagine a more Ringön combination than asphalt and salad leaves.

When industrial spaces fill with music

When the working day ends on Ringön, the area does not necessarily get much quieter. Several of its larger industrial spaces have become venues for Gothenburg’s music and cultural scene.

At Monument, gigs and club nights take centre stage, although the programme may also include markets, quizzes and other events. At Stigbergets’ Bryggan på Ringön, brewery, bar and live music venue come together in the same industrial setting close to a boat jetty. Pallazzot, Vega Bryggeri and Ivans also feature music and events as part of what they do.

So it pays to plan around what is on rather than follow a fixed route: choose what you want to see first, then build food and drinks around it.

Where creativity meets production

Perhaps the most interesting thing about Ringön is not simply that creative businesses have moved into an old industrial area. It is that many of them still make things here.

Fashion brand Atacac works with digital 3D design and manufacturing on Ringön – a modern clothing factory in an area where production has long been part of everyday life. Kolgruvan, meanwhile, brings together coworking spaces, studios, workshops and event spaces used by businesses and creatives working in areas such as music, design, photography and crafts.

That is what sets Ringön apart from a neatly packaged creative district. Workshops, brewing tanks, sewing machines, rehearsal rooms and warehouses still share much the same space.

Ö-festen – when all of Ringön opens up

If you want a crash course in what kind of place Ringön is, there are few better opportunities than Ö-festen. Once a year, businesses across the area open their doors and Ringön fills with music, art, flea markets, food, drink, cars, boats and plenty of things that do not fit quite so neatly into a category.

In 2026, Ö-festen also celebrates its tenth anniversary and takes place on Saturday 5 September. The daytime programme spreads across the district, before the evening continues at its restaurants, breweries and venues.

It is also when Ringön’s unusual mix becomes clearest: the workshop, urban farm, brewery and live stage are not separate worlds here, but neighbours.

Getting to and around Ringön

Ringön is close to central Gothenburg, but it is worth checking where your first stop is before setting off.

Bus 47 runs through the area and stops at places including Stenkolsgatan and Stålverksgatan, close to several restaurants, breweries and venues. You can also take a tram or bus to Frihamnen and continue on foot.

Continue to Frihamnen and Kvillebäcken

Ringön is easy to combine with other parts of Hisingen. Towards the city centre is Frihamnen, where Jubileumsparken offers swimming, sauna sessions and places to hang out by the river. In the other direction, Kvillebäcken has restaurants, cafés, shops and a more traditional urban feel.

The contrast says quite a lot about this part of Gothenburg: walk between the neighbourhoods and you can go from city park to industrial district, brewery and neighbourhood restaurant in a single outing.
