Classic and timeless elegance

If you want to spend the night in a room with both rich history and classic elegance, you should have a look at two of Gothenburg’s oldest hotels. Hôtel Eggers is in a building by the train station, where a hotel has been run since 1859. Eggers has around 70 individually furnished hotel rooms of high standard, some a little bigger and more luxurious, others a little smaller and more intimate. Don’t miss visiting the hotel’s restaurant, which draws inspiration from turn-of-the-century Paris and the carefree La Belle Époque.

Hotel Royal opened in 1852 and is therefore Gothenburg’s oldest hotel. Royal has preserved its heritage with classic decor and old-world charm. In the entrance, the interior details remain from the end of the 19th century: hand-painted glass ceiling, patterned stone floor and hand-forged art nouveau railings.

Stay in style – close to everything!

In the summer of 2022, the new hotel Scandic Göteborg Central opened, with a perfect location between the rive Göta älv and the Gothenburg Central Station. From here, it is walking distance to the inner city’s shops, cafes, and restaurants, while the hotel has an unbeatable view of the river and the harbour. The hotel has 451 rooms, restaurants, cafes, and a Miami-inspired rooftop bar for sunny cocktails all year round.

The Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel is located right in the centre of Gothenburg with everything within easy walking distance, and close to the train station and hub for trams and buses. The hotel has two restaurants and bars: Atrium with an elegant and relaxed atmosphere and Noot Nordik Kitchen, which serves a modern, seasonal Nordic menu. At the hotel, guests have access to a gym and yoga classes at the spa Hagabadet Drottningtorget. The spa also has steam baths, experience showers, pools, and massages.

Clarion Hotel Post is a modern hotel housed in the historic former post office right next to the train station. Here, new design meets the historic architecture from the building’s time as a post office. The hotel is just a few steps from public transport stops, and it is walking distance to both the city centre and the Ullevi and Gamla Ullevi arenas.
The hotel has two restaurants that you shouldn’t miss: Vrå, which serves the west coast’s best ingredients from sea and land, with Japanese flavours and techniques, and Norda, with a Swedish-American menu signed by chef Marcus Samuelsson and an award-winning and popular weekend brunch.

Design and boutique hotels

The design hotel Avalon is located right in the centre of Gothenburg at the square Kungsportsplatsen. Here, interior design and the guests’ experience are in focus. The hotel has a collection of modern art and iconic design furniture and as a guest you have access to the roof terrace with an outdoor pool during the period May-September.

The boutique hotel Pigalle has 64 cosy and eclectically furnished rooms inspired by the 1920s art deco style. Pigalle is in the historic Palace house by the square Brunnsparken. Since it was built in 1751, the house has been, among other things, a sugar mill, and a single-family villa of 6,000 square meters for the couple Fürstenberg. The family used the large house for periods as a temporary residence for young artists who, in return for food and room, decorated the house with art – among them famous Swedish artists as Carl Larsson, Anders Zorn and Bruno Liljefors. The Fürstenbergs then bequeathed this art collection to the city of Gothenburg, and today it can be seen at the Gothenburg Museum of Art.

During Valentine’s Day, the hotel has put together a Valentine’s Day package with champagne, roses, chocolate, dinner, and overnight stay. It is also possible to add entrance to the spa department on the hotel’s entrance floor.

Book a romantic spa weekend

If you long for a relaxing spa weekend, there are several unique spa hotels in Gothenburg and the surrounding area.

Upper House is one of them, with its spectacular outdoor pool fifty meters above ground. The hotel’s spa has a hammam, sauna, three different pools and a gym with views of the entire city. The modern hotel with the fifty-three rooms on floors 20-25 in the middle tower of Gothia Towers, maintains the highest international class.

Sankt Jörgen Park is a modern country club with hotel, restaurant, golf course and spa. The spa and hotel have many different accommodation packages to choose from, including an award-winning spa ritual that guides you between hot and cold springs, bubbling foot baths, aromas and saunas.

Marstrands Havshotell north of Gothenburg takes inspiration from the nature on the Swedish west coast. Granite, driftwood, and the salty sea inspire the spa experience. The spa area has three indoor pools, saunas, outdoor hot tubs, and an area where you can rest on warm rocks. Of course, it is also possible to take a dip in the sea regardless of the season.
