West Pride, June 8–14
For one week in June, Gothenburg fills with love, culture and human rights as West Pride takes over the city. The festival features seminars, art, performing arts, concerts and the grand Pride Parade through central Gothenburg, taking place on Saturday June 13 and starting at Gustaf Adolfs torg. The festival area Pride Park at Bananpiren is open June 12–13.

Butterfly Festival, June 26–27 at Bananpiren
Butterfly Festival is Gothenburg’s new summer festival at Bananpiren in Frihamnen. Alongside well-known artists such as Macklemore, Tom Odell, Peg Parnevik and Soppgirobygget, the festival promises DJs, funfair rides and street food from around the world.

Viva Sounds Summer Festival, June 6 at Musikens Hus & Café Hängmattan
On Sweden’s National Day, Viva Summer Sounds brings a smaller, sunnier version of its major November festival to Gothenburg. One ticket gives you access to the stages at both Musikens Hus and Café Hängmattan by Stigbergstorget.

Side by Side – concerts with young musicians and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra
Side by Side is an international choir and music camp for children and young people, held annually in Gothenburg and organised by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. Each June, the camp fills the city with music and a sense of togetherness, with concerts at venues including World of Volvo, Gothenburg Concert Hall and Scandinavium. Championships and youth tournaments
All year round, Gothenburg hosts world-class sports events for children, young people, recreational athletes and elite competitors alike. In 2026, Gothenburg was named Sweden’s leading city for sport and events.
2026 FISU World University Championships Cheerleading, June 5–7
The month of sport begins in June with international cheerleading at the highest level, as the 2026 FISU World University Championships Cheerleading take place in Kviberg on June 5–7.
Football World Cup qualifier: Sweden v Italy, June 9 at Gamla Ullevi
In June, you can cheer on the Swedish women’s national football team as they face Italy in a decisive World Cup qualifier at Gamla Ullevi. It is the final match in Sweden’s qualifying group, where Denmark, Italy and Serbia are the opposition. The group winner goes straight to the World Cup, while the remaining teams continue their campaign in the play-offs.

FIFA World Cup screenings and family-friendly football activities
In June, Gothenburg invites you to a shared football experience as Sweden’s matches and selected fixtures from the men’s FIFA World Cup are shown with free admission at several locations across the city, including Ullevi, Ullevi Plaza and Gårdsten. Two open World Cup zones for children and families will also be set up at the square Grönsakstorget and in the city park Slottsskogen.

Athletics: Gothenburg Youth Games, June 25–28 at Slottsskogsvallen
Every summer, young athletics talents from around the world gather at the historic Slottsskogsvallen arena for Gothenburg Youth Games. Watch them compete in the largest stadium-based athletics event in the Nordic region.

Handball: Partille World Cup, June 29–July 4
Partille World Cup is the world’s largest handball tournament, bringing youth teams from across the globe to Gothenburg every summer. Much of the action – including the final matches – centres on Heden in the city centre. Many matches also take place in the arena area in Kviberg.

Sailing: GKSS Match Cup Sweden, June 29–July 4
The world’s match racing elite compete on the waters off Marstrand as the annual sailing event GKSS Match Cup Sweden takes place from June 29 to July 4.

In June, the legendary Scottish band Primal Scream come to Filmstudion on Lindholmen, bringing their genre-defying blend of indie rock, psychedelia and electronic music.

Live at Liseberg in June: Empire of the Sun, Jack White, Brad Paisley, Lordi and more
Every summer, Liseberg amusement park presents a string of concerts with popular artists on the park’s Stora Scenen and Lilla Scenen stages. In June, the line-up includes Empire of the Sun on June 2, Jack White on June 10, Halsey on June 16, Brad Paisley on June 17, Tjuvjakt on June 25, and Suicidal Tendencies on June 30.
This year, Liseberg is also launching Lilla Live – family-friendly music Sundays with concerts starting as early as 16:00. In June, young music fans can dance along to Felicia on June 7, Meira Omar & Lilla Al-Fadji on June 14 and Lordi on June 28.
Concerts and craft beer at Bryggan på Ringön
Bryggan på Ringön is one of several restaurants and bars run by local brewery Stigbergets Bryggeri in Gothenburg, alongside places such as Shangri-La. Bryggan is also one of Gothenburg’s liveliest live music venues. In June, the programme includes Shitkid on June 4; Arvid Nero, Maria Jane Smith and Simon Superti on June 11; Stuzzi on June 25; and Amanda Bergman on June 26. On June 27, it is time for the Craft Beer Circus beer festival, featuring invited craft breweries from across Sweden.

Summer stage at Villa Belparc: Viktor Norén and Lisa Nilsson
Restaurant Villa Belparc is beautifully located by one of the ponds in Slottsskogen city park. Every year, artists and the music industry gather here for the Greentopia climate summit during the Way Out West weekend, and throughout the summer you can enjoy concerts on Villa Belparc’s summer stage. In June, Viktor Norén performs on June 26, followed by Lisa Nilsson on June 27.

Hip hop legends in Gothenburg: KRS-One and Tricky
The iconic jazz venue Nefertiti always has an exciting concert programme worth checking out. This summer, you can see hip hop legend KRS-One there on June 27. The following day, take the ferry across the river Göta älv to Filmstudion on Lindholmen for a rare concert with Tricky, the rapper known for his work with Massive Attack, on June 28.

The street food market Vassen kicks off with a big opening weekend during Gothenburg Docks on May 29–31. After that, it is open Friday–Sunday until the Midsummer weekend, then Thursday–Sunday for the rest of the summer.
The final weekend of June brings even more good food and laid-back summer atmosphere to the city. On June 27, the food, art and vintage market Slakthuset Saturdays takes place in Gamlestan, along with the Vegan Market at Grönsakstorget.

National Day of Sweden and Midsummer celebrations in Gothenburg
National Day concert in Slottsskogen, June 6
What could be more Swedish in summer than gathering outdoors to celebrate? Gothenburg marks Sweden’s National Day with music, folk dancing and family activities in Slottsskogen city park. The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra will perform a National Day concert together with 400 children and young people, and new citizens will be welcomed in a ceremony.
Midsummer celebrations, June 19
Midsummer is celebrated across the Gothenburg region with dancing around the midsummer pole, folk music and traditional festivities. Popular places to celebrate include Gunnebo House and Gardens, Tjolöholm Castle, Bohus Fortress and Slottsskogen city park.

Skulptur i Pilane is one of the summer’s most popular art experiences, where international contemporary art meets the dramatic landscapes of Bohuslän on Tjörn.

This summer’s major exhibition at the Nordic Watercolour museum in Skärhamn on Tjörn presents works by Asger Jorn and Per Kirkeby, two of Denmark’s most significant artists.

Art at Strandverket in Marstrand, June 6–16
Four artists and four expressions come together in a curated exhibition at Strandverket in Marstrand. The exhibition includes abstract painting, glass, intuitive works in charcoal and colour, and ceramics fired using raku techniques. Open 6–16 June, 11:00–17:00 – a good reason to combine art with a day trip to Marstrand.
Medieval days at Bohus Fortress, June 26–28
History buffs should head to the impressive Bohus Fortress this summer. During the Medieval Days, you can travel back to the Middle Ages and encounter knights, markets and historical displays. Did you know that the fortress has also been used as a filming location for both Sommarskuggan and Ronia, the Robber’s Daughter?
