Dare to enter one of Sweden’s most spectacular and unforgettable saunas? The award-winning sauna in Jubileumsparken, Frihamnen, is a true architectural gem and a celebrated landmark both in Gothenburg and abroad. Striking on the outside, stunning on the inside. Take a break from the heat with a refreshing dip in one of three pools in the river Göta älv — all set against a one-of-a-kind view of central Gothenburg. Best of all? Both the harbour baths and the sauna are free. Just don’t forget to book your sauna session in advance!

Treetop Spa, Hangout and Hotel – wood-fired sauna right in Gothenburg

Treetop Spa, Hangout & Hotel is tucked away on Hisingen, just a few minutes’ drive from the city centre and with public transport right on the doorstep. A little way up the hill, in a peaceful spot, you’ll find “Vedbrasan” – a cosy area you can book for up to 20 people. Soak in the wood-fired sauna and jacuzzi while taking in the gorgeous views over Gothenburg.

Långholmen’s Sauna Bath Hönö – elegant interiors and sea views

Located on the island Hönö in Gothenburg’s northern archipelago, Långholmen’s Sauna Bath & Marina Meetings offers a relaxing sauna experience right by the water’s edge, in a beautifully designed setting. Getting to Hönö Klåva is easy by car or bus – it takes around 45 minutes from central Gothenburg. From Hönö Klåva, it’s just a few minutes by boat to Långholmen. If you have your own boat, you can moor directly at Långholmen’s jetty. Alternatively, you can arrange a boat pickup when booking the sauna.

Havskatten Hönö – bubbles & sauna with a sea view

Havskatten Hotel and Hostel, located on the northern side of the island Hönö, features a brand-new, modern spa area with both a sauna and hot tub right by the sea – available for private hire.

Nimbus Öckerö – sauna at the end of the pier

The popular hostel Nimbus on Öckerö also offers a sauna for hire, located right at the end of the pier with the sea as your closest neighbour. Combine your sauna session with a dip in the harbour or from the new jetty facing the open sea. You can reach Öckerö by car or bus via the ferry from Lilla Varholmen.

Salt & Sill Klädesholmen Tjörn – swimming & sauna boat with lounge

Moored at Salt & Sill’s jetty lies the S/S Silla – a floating sauna and bathing boat featuring a sauna, relaxation room, showers, toilets, and a swim platform with ladders down into the sea. When you book a sauna session, you also get access to a heated hot tub and sun deck. You can reach Klädesholmen on the island Tjörn either by car or by bus.

Klädesholmen’s Sauna Tjörn – newly built and a cut above the rest

Nestled among the sea-sprayed cliffs is a newly built sauna, owned and run by the Klädesholmen Sauna Association. The magnificent westward view, with Flatholmen and the open sea as a backdrop, adds that special touch to your sauna experience. The facility is accessibility-friendly and features a spacious, open area with a kitchen section. The tub outside is filled with seawater at its natural temperature.

Björholmen Tjörn – sauna on the cliffs

You can book a sauna at Björholmen Hotel & Restaurant. The wood-fired sauna sits on the cliffs, offering views over the archipelago and passing boats in the guest harbour. When you’re ready to swap the heat for a refreshing dip, the salty sea is just a few steps away.

Kajkanten Vrångö – floating Spa open all year round

Kajkanten Hotel’s floating spa is moored in Vrångö harbour – in the outer harbour during summer and the inner harbour by the hotel in winter. Here, you’ll find a wood-fired sauna, hot tub, and a ladder for sea swimming all year round. There’s also the option to cook onboard – as any true sauna lover knows, a good steam builds an appetite. There’s a barbecue spot on the quay, and if you fancy a seafood dinner after your sauna session, you can order delivery straight to the spa float. The most common way to reach the island Vrångö is by ferry from Saltholmen or Stenpiren.

Fotö Sauna – stunning location

Fotö Sauna is a relatively new sauna that opened in June 2022. Beautifully located at the far end of Ussholmen, it accommodates up to eight people at a time. Booking is quick and easy online. You can reach the island Fotö via Hönö, either by car or by bus.

Dyrön Sauna – stunning seaside setting

Dyrön’s sauna is truly special thanks to its spectacular location, just ten metres from the sea at the southern tip of the island. A few years ago, it was named Sweden’s best electric-heated sauna. Anyone can book a session, up to one year in advance. The island Dyrön is accessible by a short boat ride from Rönnäng or Rökan’s jetty.

Nääs Fabriker – sauna and swimming by lake Sävelången

Just outside Gothenburg, in Tollered, you’ll find Nääs Fabriker, beautifully located by Lake Sävelången. The bathhouse here includes two saunas, hot tubs, and access to lake swimming. Children (ages 4–12, accompanied by an adult) are welcome every day from 07:00 to 16:00.

Wood-fired sauna at Hällsnäs herrgård

Hällsnäs herrgård is a Manor in Mölnlycke, just minutes from Gothenburg, features a wood-fired sauna raft on Lake Landvetter and an infrared sauna in the relaxation house. There are also two heated outdoor baths kept at 38°C year-round. All of this is included when you book a day spa, which also comes with lunch.
