You can only buy one ticket per bank card. You can buy all different kinds of tickets, such as 24- or 72-hour cards, at Västtrafik’s points of sale or via the Västtrafik ToGo app. vasttrafik.se

Accessibility
Having a disability can involve many challenges, but the City of Gothenburg is constantly working to minimise limitations. One stated goal is for the city to be accessible to everyone, no matter what their difficulties might be. At t-d.se you can find accessibility information from various organisations in Gothenburg.
Public transport stops have arrival signs with accessibility icons. The newer trams generally have a lowered section at the centre of the carriage that makes it easy to get on board. All city buses and boats have ramps and gangways, as well as staff who can help. Airport buses are an exception, as they are not fitted with ramps or lifting equipment, and often have several steps.
The public attractions in Gothenburg should be accessible to all and easy to visit. The attractions’ own websites usually provide more detailed information on accessibility. The Got Event Tillgänglighet app has been developed to make the City of Gothenburg’s event venues more accessible for those who need visual interpretation, sign language interpretation or a hearing loop.
There is a good range of accessible bathing spots with ramps and disabled toilets in Gothenburg. However, it is worth being aware that the Gothenburg archipelago consists mainly of rocks. Most playgrounds in Gothenburg are also accessible, and are rubberised to make it easier to access the play equipment.
There are public toilets throughout Gothenburg, many of which are wheelchair accessible. Some cost SEK 5 to use, which you pay by card. You can find a map of where toilets are located at goteborg.se. Here, you can also find more general information about accessibility in Gothenburg.
For more information, come to the accessible Gothenburg Visitor Centre.

Explore Gothenburg
Almost everything is within walking distance of the city centre, which makes it easy to explore Gothenburg on foot. We’ve hand-picked some of the best sights that you can manage to fit in even if you are just on a flying visit to the city. The round tour takes around two hours.

1. The Market Hall (Saluhallen)
Breathe in the aromas, sample the delicacies or tuck into an affordable lunch. The Market Hall has retained its old charm since 1888 and is a must for foodies.
2. Götaplatsen
Do like the sea god Poseidon and take in the view from the top of Avenyn, the main boulevard. Arranged in a circle around you are Gothenburg Concert Hall, Gothenburg City Theatre, Gothenburg City Library, Gothenburg Museum of Art and the Hasselblad Center.
3. Haga and Skansen Kronan
Stroll down the cosy pedestrian street of Haga Nygata with its charming “Governor’s houses” dating from the late 19th century. Enjoy a coffee at one of the many cafés and sink your teeth into the biggest cinnamon buns in Gothenburg! If you can manage the steps up to Skansen Kronan fortress it offers a great view over the rooftops of the city.
4. Feskekôrka
This fish market that looks like a church is a sign of the almost religious passion with which locals regard seafood. The building was completed in 1874 to a design by the city architect, Viktor von Gegerfeldt.
5. Gothenburg Cathredal (Göteborgs Domkyrka)
The Gustavian Cathedral was designed by the architect C. W. Carlberg and opened in 1815. It is the third cathedral on the same site. The first was opened in 1633 in the name of Gustav II Adolf.
6. Kronhuset and Kronhusbodarna
Further on, you come to the oldest building in Gothenburg, dating from 1654. It was originally built as a storehouse for military uniforms and other military supplies. Today the area is a bustling centre for handicrafts. The small studios house shops selling chocolate and toffee, a café, a smithy, potters, soap makers and more.
7. The Göteborg Opera (Göteborgsoperan)
The architectural design was inspired by the harbour landscape of silhouetted ships, sails, bridges and cranes. An internationally renowned arena for dance, opera, musicals and concerts.
8. Garden society of Gothenburg (Trädgårdsföreningen) and the Palm House
One of the best-preserved 19th century parks in Europe. The Rose Garden has thousands of beautiful roses in summer and the Palm House is filled with tropical plants. You can also enjoy a coffee at Rosenkaféet and Café Grindstugan. There is a fine playground for children in the leafy garden setting, while Alfie Atkins occupies the old seed store, now a creative centre for all inquisitive children and their grown-ups.
Time to spare? Take a detour
Take the Älvsnabben harbour ferry from Lilla Bommen or Stenpiren to Eriksberg. See the river Göta Älv from the top deck and leave the ferry in the former shipyard area of Eriksberg, where you can see the Swedish Ship Götheborg, the landmark gantry crane and enjoy the view towards Älvsborgsbron bridge.

Gothenburg archipelago
Take a deep breath of fresh sea air. The coast and islands around Gothenburg are a unique setting where the craggy shore meets leafy nature. You will find cosy fishing communities and fantastic gourmet experiences here.
Explore the archipelago
The southern islands are car-free, and you can easily reach them by boat from Saltholmen ferry terminal, and at certain times from Stenpiren in the city centre. You can reach Saltholmen by bicycle, bus or tram 11 from central Gothenburg. The same ticket is valid for buses, trams and boats. You can easily pay with your bank card on board. Simply tap your card (Visa or Mastercard) on the card readers to buy an adult ticket with a 90-minute connection period. If you tap again after 90 minutes, a new purchase will be made. You can only buy one ticket per bank card.
You can buy all different kinds of tickets, such as 24- or 72-hour cards, at Västtrafik’s retailers or via the Västtrafik ToGo app. vasttrafik.se
The northern islands can be reached by car, bus or bicycle via Route 155 heading towards Hisingen/ Öckerö to the Lilla Varholmen ferry port. Two ferries leave from Lilla Varholmen, heading to Hönö/Öckerö and Björkö. Both are free. vasttrafik.se
During the summer, a ferry also goes direct from Stenpiren and Eriksberg in central Gothenburg to Hönö Klåva. For information and tickets, visit styrsobolaget.se
You can bring a bike on the ferries subject to available space.

Things to do
Swimming and saunas
Gothenburg’s archipelago offers almost endless possibilities for swimming – whichever island you find yourself on, you’re never far from rocks, beaches and bays.
There are 13 municipal bathing spots on the northern islands. These include the Hästen bathing area within walking distance of Hönö Klåva, and the popular Hjälvik bathing area with its volleyball court and ramp on Öckerö. There are bathing areas with diving towers on both Björkö and Knippla. You can combine a sauna with sea bathing on several islands, including on Långholmen near Hönö Klåva, and on Öckerö, Fotö and Knippla. Havskatten on Hönö has a spa area with a sauna and a whirlpool.
Magasinet Rörö will open in autumn 2026 with a sauna, hot tub and conference accommodation right on the beach.
In the southern part of the archipelago, you’ll find gems such as Vrångö’s child-friendly shallow sandy beach, Utterviksbadet with its own little islet on Styrsö, and the spacious Ramsdalsbadet on Brännö. Kusthotellet Styrsö has a spa with sauna, steam bath and pool, which is open all year round. In the far south, Kajkanten on Vrångö has a relaxation raft with a wood-fired sauna and hot tub. visitockero.se kajkantenvrango.se | kusthotelletstyrso.se
Paddling and bicycle
Paddling a kayak or canoe is the perfect way to experience the Gothenburg archipelago, which can offer everything from relaxed and tranquil paddling on a calm day, to more challenging days when the frost gnaws at your cheeks. If you want to explore the islands on two wheels, you can bring your own bike free of charge on the ferries (subject to space) or hire one there, either in Hönö Klåva or at Nimbus Öckerö. Donsö Havskajak and Popsicle offer cycle hire, and Aroniagården on Brännö has bike rental as well as a small garden café during the summer months and a craft shop. The Kusthotellet hotel on Styrsö also has bike rental. donsohavskajak.se | kusthotelletstyrso.se | kajkantenvrango.se | visitockero.se
Museums and heritage centres
At the far end of Hönö Klåva harbour is the Fishing Museum, which documents the history of fishing. Learn about which tools and boats were used, and explore the Normy fishing boat built into the museum. At Öckerö Hembygdsgård heritage centre, you can learn how the islanders lived and worked in the past. Tours are available during the summer. visitockero.se
On Brännö, the charming little heritage museum Ladan teaches visitors about the island’s history. Open during the summer. goteborg.com
Boat excursions
Want to see more of the sea? Join a seal safari and see our grey-spotted friends sunbathing on the rocks, or try fishing for crabs, mackerel and lobsters. Tour boats run from Hönö Klåva harbour out to Vinga, the childhood home of Evert Taube, with its distinctive beacon and pier. visitockero.se
Walking
Hitta Ut – Now you can discover exciting new places in the Gothenburg archipelago while exercising. Look for checkpoints and get the chance to win prizes. Anyone can take part according to their abilities, at any time of the day during the season, which usually runs from Easter to December. Pick up a map at Gothenburg Visitor Centre or Infopoints in the archipelago, or download the map via the Hitta Ut app. hittaut.nu
The northern islands
The Gothenburg Archipelago Route combines spectacular views with slightly more strenuous walking across Hönö, Fotö, Öckerö Hälsö, Hyppeln and Knippla. Along the trail, there are sights, bathing spots, places to eat and accommodation. Bus stops along the entire route make for easy access.
westswedentrails.com
Ersdalen Nature Reserve on western Hönö is popular with those who enjoy bouldering. Many of the rocks are in a specular position right next to the water, for an extraordinary thrill. But you don’t need to be a climbing expert to come here – the area is an experience in itself!
Walking through the paths, boulder fields and open landscapes of the Rörö Nature Reserve is a powerful natural experience. Here, you can see grazing sheep and horses. There is a café and a grocery store near the ferry quay, where you can buy your own lunch to take with you.
Björkö offers untouched nature with open landscape, grazing animals and flowering meadows. The island is largely uninhabited, and there are many areas for walking. visitockero.se
The southern islands
Much of Vrångö is a nature reserve, and there are excellent walks. Tärnstigen is a shorter stretch that is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Bird watchers and nature-lovers flock here for the varied flora and fauna.
From the highest point on Brännö, at the old pilot’s look-out on the hill, you can take in views of Vinga and the approach to Gothenburg. From Brännö, you can walk across to the beautiful nature reserve on Galterö via a narrow land bridge. Here, you will find a wealth of birdlife and nature. Visitors like to paddle across from Brännö, and you can easily bring your kayak up onto the beaches at Galterö’s bays.
You can also enjoy stunning views of the entire archipelago from Styrsö’s highest point, Stora Rös. From here, you can walk along nature trails to Brännholmsviken Bay and the islet of Styrsö Skäret. There is a bridge across to Donsö, so you can walk or cycle between the two islands. Donsö has several trails with spectacular views and picnic spots. You’ll find beautiful nature at the far north and south points of the island. goteborg.com

Live music in Gothenburg
Jazz, pop, punk or blues? Gothenburg’s live music scene has something for everyone. In the city centre you’ll find John Scott’s Palace (Södra Hamngatan 2) and the Irish Embassy Downtown (Östra Hamngatan 50B), where the focus is often on rock. Grindstugan (Gamla Allégatan 2) at the beautiful Trädgårdsföreningen holds troubadour evenings, and at Folkmusikcafét (Södra Allégatan 4) you can listen to folk music. If you prefer jazz, head for Unity Jazz (Kyrkogatan 13) or Café Kronhuset (Postgatan 6–8) where you can sometimes experience a jazzier vibe.
Enjoy great blues evenings at the quayside on theS/S Marieholm.
Långgatorna and Majorna are home to a wide range of pubs and restaurants. At Holy Moly (Andra Långgatan 31) you can listen to jazz, blues and folk music, with similar sounds on offer across the street at 2Lång. At the top of Stigberget is the Nordic region’s largest record store, Bengans. As well as buying records and attending signings, you can also check out the latest bands and artists. Hängmattan Kök & Bar (Karl Johansgatan 16) hosts concerts by smaller live acts a couple of times a week. Crippas Café (Kusttorget 1) features DJs and live bands every Wednesday and Saturday. Potatisen (Värmlandsgatan 15) is a venue with all kinds of entertainment. In the Klippan area is Porter Pelle, where you can listen to everything from pop to rock at the water’s edge.
For concerts with advance ticket sales, see the event calendar at goteborg.com.
