Only a 10–20-minute ride from the ferry terminal lies the small archipelago idyll of Asperö. Around 400 people live here year-round, making Asperö the smallest permanently inhabited island in the southern part of Gohtenburg’s archipelago. The island is first mentioned in the 13th century, and its name derives from the aspen tree, which still grows in large numbers on the island.

Beaches, walking trails, and viewpoints

Asperö offers lovely bathing spots among the granite rocks, typical for the archipelago islands on the Swedish west coast. There is also a beach, Kvisteviksbadet, which is easiest to reach via the walking trail from the ferry stop Asperö Östra. If you enjoy hiking, there are excellent paths surrounded by beautiful nature. From the viewpoint Valen, you have a superb outlook over the entrance to Gothenburg’s harbour.

Garden café and shop

If you visit Asperö during the summer season, you can enjoy sandwiches, ice cream, and “fika” at Knutssons Trädgårdscafé. If you need to pick up food or drinks for a picnic, the self-service shop Hamnboa stocks essential groceries and is open every day, around the clock.

Getting to Asperö

You can reach Asperö by ferry from Saltholmen. Tickets cost the same as other public transport fares within Gothenburg.
