Lilla Åstols Rökeri is the sister restaurant of the somewhat iconic Åstols Rökeri on the small island of Åstol, north of Gothenburg. This smaller version is located inside Feskekörka, the fish and seafood market hall that is one of Gothenburg’s most recognisable landmarks.
Feskekörka has stood on the same site since 1874 and has long been a central hub for Gothenburg’s fish trade. The market hall owes its name – meaning “the Fish Church” – to its architecture, inspired by Nordic stave churches and Neo-Gothic architecture. The visible roof structure creates a large, open hall, the windows feature pointed Gothic arches, and the façade is decorated with small spires.
In 2024, Feskekörka reopened after several years of careful restoration and modernisation. Today, visitors are welcomed into a warm and inviting environment with several restaurants, bars, and fish counters selling fresh seafood.
