The range of shopping in Gothenburg is large, and near the shopping street on Magasinsgatan you’ll find the interior design store and the Gothenburg classic Artilleriet, which also has a smaller section, Artilleriet Kitchen, at the beginning of the street which focuses on equipment and furnishings for the kitchen. On the same street, you’ll also find the multi-brand and the clothing store APLACE, which also has an appreciated second-hand section. A short walk from there, on Södra Larmgatan 12, takes you to the flagship store of Gothenburg-based Nudie Jeans, where you can also drop in your old, torn jeans from the brand and have them repaired. If you then walk through the cosy Viktoriapassagen, the steps take you to Vallgatan, where you’ll find, among other things, the trendy fashion and interior design store Vallgatan 12.

After a day filled with shopping or other fun activities, it can be nice to sit down and have a coffee. In the previously mentioned Viktoriapassagen, you’ll find the café Da Matteo, which, among other things, serves specialty brew. Should there be no room in Viktoriapassagen, Da Matteo has a number of other cafes, including a slightly larger location on Magasinsgatan, and if you like their coffee, you can definitely buy a bag with you. Should you end up in the neighbourhood around NK, Bar Centro at Kyrkogatan 31 is a must. Here you dive into an environment that breathes Milan, where you can expect a perfectly served espresso. Another cosy café is Viktors Kaffe at Geijersgatan 7, which you’ll find next to Götaplatsen. Gothenburgers often sit here studying or working, and enjoying really good coffee.

The Must-See Exhibitions in and outside Gothenburg

In Gothenburg there is everything from small, exciting galleries that show contemporary art, to large museums with art from the 15th century onwards. A classic is, of course, Gothenburg Museum of Art, where you can see works by, among others, Rembrandt, Monet, van Gogh and Picasso. A visit to Galleri Thomassen in Vasastaden, which works with artists from Sweden, the rest of Scandinavia and Berlin, is an absolute must for those of you who are interested in modern art. In the middle of the shopping district, at Vallgatan 15, you’ll find Mankovsky Gallery where you can find a mix of future talent and well-established artists in a unique selection. Gothenburg’s restaurant scene is very much alive and new gems, big and small, open regularly. At Postgatan 16 you’ll find chef Gustav Trägårdh’s restaurant Gurras, which serves street food raised to à la carte level with flavours from all over the world. At Tredje Långgatan 7 you’ll find the brasserie Taverna Averna, which on weekends has a nice atmosphere, often with a DJ, with a classic menu influenced by Italy and Sweden. Should you want to go ahead for a drink afterwards, there is, for example, the popular Kafé Magasinet next door with Taverna Averna, and if you want to look further, you’ll find cosy Hagabion’s Bar Kino a little further up Linnégatan, a short walk away. If you’re interested in beer, a visit to Shangri-La at Stigbergstorget is a good option, and if you’re in Hisingen, a visit to Ringön is a must, where you’ll find Ivans Pilsnerbar and Vega Bryggeri, among others. If you want to experience natural wine at the absolute highest level, you should go to Bar La Lune, which also serves fantastic food, or the sister bar Angeli, which is next door.
