On Västra Hamngatan, Ego Distillers runs a cocktail bar where the entire menu is built around its own spirits and the music is always played on vinyl. The newly renovated space is sharp and atmospheric, with low lighting that softens the raw walls and gives the room a warm, intimate feel.
Every spirit served here is developed and distilled at Ego’s distillery in Gamlestadens Fabriker. Sometimes a spirit is created for a single cocktail, giving the bar a kind of freedom few others have. You notice it in a menu that moves easily between familiar flavours and more curious ideas.
The bar was among the first in Gothenburg to open after the food requirement for bars was removed. That has made room for a concept where the cocktail leads and the food plays a smaller, but carefully chosen, role. Small Belgian waffles are served with selected conservas, from quality tinned seafood to caviar.
The result is a more polished side of Ego, while keeping the relaxed, personal feel that makes the bar easy to settle into.
