The hiking trail is 27,1 km and dividied into three stages.
Discover a hiking trail by the sea that mixes trails, archipelago architecture, hills, incredible views and historic remains. The trail is part of the longer hiking trail Kuststigen.
To reach the trail, get a bus, bike or car to Hönö ferry port and then follow the trail on the islands of Hönö, Fotö, Öckerö and Hälsö.
Stage 1: Hönö ferry terminal – Distance 10 km
The trail leads you past the Hönö Heden mill and follows the eastern shore with its beach meadows and bays. The bay Jungfruviken near Engelsmännens hage is perfect for games, barbecue abd swimming. Cross the 13 metre tall bridge to the island of Fotö and enjoy the views of Danafjord and the island Vinga in the distance. At Fotö you will do a lap of the island before returing to Hönö and Klåva with its many cafés, restaurants and shops, open all year round.
Stage 2: Hönö Klåva – Distance 9,3 km
Start at Hönö Klåva and follow the trail over the cliffs and swimming spots Hästen and Lapposand. In the nature reserve Ersdalen there’s a wind shelter for birdwatching near Kråkudden. The trail continues through Hönö Röd and the old fishing harbour with fantastic ocean views. Cross the bridge to Öckerö and walk over hills to reach the swimming spot Saltas.
Stage Hyppeln – Distance 3 km
This is a three-kilometre stage that takes you around the island of Hyppeln, through rich natural surroundings and beautiful scenery. The circular trail begins at the ferry terminal, and you can follow the Kuststigen waymarks all the way around the island. Along the route, you can explore sandy beaches, shingle fields, and rocky coastal landscapes. There are also wind shelters and barbecue areas placed at scenic viewpoints where you can take a well-earned and enjoyable break.
Stage 3: Öckerö – Distance 7,8 km
On the island of Öckerö the trail continues towards Rördammen with its rich wildlife. Walk past the bay Hummerviken on your way to swimming spot Hjälvik. The bays have vast pebble beaches, and the trail goes on over the hills Skalkeligbergen. Cross the bridge Hälsöbron to the harobur and stroll through archipelago architecture among the cosy streets as you cross the hill Stuvö on your way to Burö ferry terminal. The islands of Rörö, Hyppeln and Knippla all have nice trails if you wish to continue by ferry.
Stage Knippla – Distance 4 km
Discover Knippla on a scenic four-kilometre walk. From the ferry terminal, follow the signs along the harbour through the traditional Bohuslän-style settlement. The tarmac road gradually turns into a gravel nature trail that winds its way over rocky terrain, through shrubbery and open cultural landscapes. Along the route, you’ll find several fire pits and bathing spots – perfect for a break with a sea view. On the northern part of the island, you can take a short detour to Röddeviga, a beautiful area with a barbecue and swimming area, complete with jetty and ladder. Benches are placed in several spots along the stage, offering a chance to sit down and enjoy the view.
