Nature area
A popular area for hiking, walking, horseback riding and sport fishing. The valley around Lärjeån covers about 29 square kilometers. In the middle of the valley you will find the naturally meandering river Lärjeån.
Lärjeåns dalgång consists of undulating pastureland, deciduous forests and heathland. The forest is lush and the area has a rich flora and fauna and is therefore partly a protected area. There are both trout and salmon in the river.
In the north-east of Gothenburg you will find Lärjeleden trail, a 7.5 kilometer long nature trail, which follows the long valley of Lärjeån river through jungle-like forest. It extends from Lärjeholm to the center of Angered.
The trail starts at the parking lot at the end of the street Bollplansgatan in Hjällbo. The closest stop by tram is Hjällbo. The trail is marked with orange signs and “Lärjeleden”. From the parking lot, cross the bridge and then turn left. Then follow the orange signs.
The trail connects several urban districts with each other. The Pilgrim trail which follows Lärjeleden continues all the way to Lödöse. Where the trains used to run on Västgötabanan, is today a route for walking, cycling and horseback riding.
