Located close to the mainland south of Gothenburg, near the swimming spot Ganlet, the island has around 100 summer cottages. As it is primarily visited by those who stay there, only a few ferry services operate each day.
At the island’s highest viewpoint, you can find several ancient cairns (rös). As on Köpstadsö, wheelbarrows are the main means of transport, as motorised vehicles are prohibited. Stora Förö is connected by an isthmus to the uninhabited island of Lilla Förö, which offers unspoilt and authentic archipelago nature.
Getting to Stora Förö
Just as the islands Kårholmen and Sjumansholmen the island is mainly visited by those who have holiday homes on the island. Therefore the ferry traffic isn’t as frequent to these islands. You can reach Stora Förö by ferry from Saltholmen. Tickets cost the same as other public transport fares within Gothenburg.
