It will be one of spring’s absolute highlights when the world’s most famous symphony orchestra guest-performs at the Gothenburg Concert Hall for the first time in 30 years! The Berlin Philharmonic, led by chief conductor Kirill Petrenko, and star pianist Leif Ove Andsnes are welcomed. Together, they present a fantastic German-Norwegian evening, with two of the greatest works from Grieg and Beethoven, at the time of his anniversary.
Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto is a fundamental piece of Nordic classical music. He composed this central work when he was just 25 years old. Grieg adjusted the score for many years, but still retained parts and harmonies with a connection to the Nordic sound. And who better to interpret this music than the frequent guest of Gothenburg, Norwegian star pianist Leif Ove Andsnes?
The Pastoral Symphony is Beethoven’s sixth symphony and one of his best-known works. Beethoven was in an unusually light-hearted mood and wrote artful descriptions of each movement. We experience the thunderstorms, streams and birds, and finally the calm after the storm.
