With rich and playful sounds, surprising turns and impressionistic elements, composer Britta Byström creates an imaginative musical journey. The music is infused with a thirst for discovery in the spirit of Jules Verne. Byström’s large-scale work for orchestra, Voyages Extraordinaires, first premiered in 2023 by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and will now be taken to Stockholm for a guest performance.
Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 was composed in 1811–1812 and is characterised by its rhythmic energy, often described as his most dance-like work. The focus here is on movement and pulse, which led Wagner to refer to the symphony as the “apotheosis of the dance” (becoming god-like).
The symphony is an example of Ludwig van Beethoven’s ability to combine dramatic intensity with luminous melodies. This is an occasion to celebrate the 200-year anniversary of Beethoven, especially through the famous melody of the second movement, which has been used in both songs and movie soundtracks.
